The Chevrolet Warriors romped to a 10-wicket win over the Gestetner Diamond Eagles in their Standard Bank Pro20 semifinal second-leg replay at Sahara Oval St George's on Monday. Chasing 102 for victory the Warriors scored 103 without loss with 47 balls of their innings remaining to take the best of three match series into a deciding game at the same ground on Wednesday.
CRICKET
Ricky Ponting arrived in Johannesburg on Monday saying his Australian team were determined to hang on to the ICC's number one test ranking by beating South Africa in the return series that starts on February 26. Coach Tim Nielsen put a positive spin on a new-look Australian side that includes six players who are on their first test tour and four players who have yet to play a test.
CRICKET
Paul Collingwood struck an unbeaten 87 Monday as England piled on the runs on the second day of the third cricket test at the Antigua Recreation Ground. The visitors reached tea on 482-7 with Collingwood in sight of his eighth test century. The right-hander from Durham struck 12 fours off 167 balls in just under four hours.
RUGBY
The Vodacom Bulls' captain Victor Matfield will be on the sideline for three weeks following the shoulder injury that he picked up against the Reds at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday. Matfield's X-rays confirmed on Monday that he injured ligaments in his AC joint and as a result he will miss the games against the Blues as well as the Lions and probably also the clash against the Stormers.
GOLF
American Dustin Johnson clinched his second PGA Tour title when the final round of the weather-hit Pebble Beach National Pro-Am was washed out on Monday. No play was possible on Sunday because of heavy rain and strong winds on the Pebble Beach Golf Links and organisers abandoned play on Monday morning with the course under water. It was the first PGA Tour event decided after 54 holes since Phil Mickelson won the 2005 BellSouth Classic.
