Charl Langeveldt took three wickets in the last over as the bizhub Highveld Lions and the Nashua Cape Cobras played out a dramatic tie in their Standard Bank Pro20 match at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Wednesday. Chasing 155 to win the Lions began the last over of their innings needing eight runs for victory.
CRICKET
Kevin Pietersen was defying an incisive West Indies battery with a disciplined 60 as England limped to tea at 132-4 on the first day Wednesday of the opening test. Andrew Flintoff, who overcame a side strain to make the starting XI, was with Pietersen at the break on 9 not out. England won the toss but West Indies dominated the first two sessions at Sabina Park. There was a wicket apiece for Jerome Taylor (1-31) and Daren Powell (1-24), who took care of the openers cheaply.

Stormers and Springbok assistant coach Gary Gold is backing the controversial plan to convert Nick Koster into a wing. Koster made his debut as No 8 for Western Province during last year’s Currie Cup, but has had to broaden his horizons at the Stormers.

Jeremy Kavanagh left it till the last hole of The Open’s International Final Qualifier - Africa at Royal Durban Golf Course on Wednesday to make it into July’s Open at Turnberry.To avoid a playoff for third, England’s Kavanagh (71), who led overnight, needed to sink a par putt on the 18th for to qualify along with South Africa’s Jaco Ahlers (65) and Marc Cayeux (68) from Zimbabwe. Ahlers finished his round with five birdies, shooting the lowest score of the tournament in a flawless round of five-under par 65 to secure his entry into The Open.
