Justin Ontong delivered a top-class all-round display as the Nashua Cape Cobras scored a crucial 16-run victory over the Easterns Titans in a crunch Standard Bank Pro20 match at Newlands on Sunday. Captain Ontong scored a brilliant 59 not out off 38 balls to give the Cobras' innings a late boost to 157 for four and he then claimed two wickets in a key two-over spell as the Titans struggled to 141 for nine.

CRICKET

Robin Peterson clubbed a career-best innings as the Chevrolet Warriors beat the Nashua Dolphins by eight wickets in their Standard Bank Pro20 match at Buffalo Park in East London on Sunday. Chasing the Dolphins total of 127 all out the Warriors reached 131 for two with eight balls of their innings remaining.

RUGBY

The Bulls Springbok scrumhalf Fourie du Preez could miss the first three or four Super 14 matches of the season after injuring the same hand that kept him off the field for a large part of the 2008 season in Friday night's warm-up match against the Cheetahs in Polokwane. The injury will be a surprise for the Bulls management who after the match were relieved that there were no serious injuries to their players. The seriousness of the injury will be fully determined on Monday. The hand was operated on last year and kept Du Preez out of the Boks' early tests.

RUGBY

Former Bulls and Leceister coach Heyneke Meyer has finally broken his silence about his resignation from Leceister Tigers this past week. Meyer resigned his position this week at Leceister Tigers after just 26 weeks at the club after returning to Pretoria because of an illness in the family and chose to make the return a permanent one.  The 41 year old coach told Afrikaans Sunday newspaper Sondag that he had learnt much at the Tigers, and that the decision to leave so soon was one of the most difficult of his career.

TENNIS

Rafa Nadal captured the Australian Open title with an enthralling 7-5 3-6 7-6 3-6 6-2 win over Roger Federer on Sunday, denying the Swiss a chance to win a record-equalling 14th grand slam title. The world number one became the first Spaniard to win the Australian Open and chalked up his fifth straight victory over Federer, including last year's French Open and Wimbledon finals.
