RUGBY

Australia's superb defence was the springboard for their hard-fought win over a star-studded Barbarians side at Wembley on Wednesday. The Wallabies withstood strong early pressure for Ryan Cross to create a 12th-minute try for Lote Tuqiri. The impressive James O'Connor kicked available points but his mistake let Shane Williams set up Jerry Collins for a second-half Barbarians score. But Australia sealed victory with a brilliant Lachie Turner try late on.

The decision to move the Springbok emblem to the right of the jersey of the national rugby team was confirmed by the president’s council of the South Africa Rugby Union (SARU) on Monday. Bringing to an end weeks of speculation, Andy Colquhoun, spokesperson for Saru, said on Monday that the change will be implemented as soon as it would be pratically possible. It was decided to allow the Protea to take its rightful place on the left hand side of jersey as national sports emblem.

Overnight leader Williams struggled after two solid rounds and only managed two birdies with four bogeys in the final round to tie third with Botes.

The Telkom Knockout final between Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town scheduled for December 13 will be played at Durban’s Chatsworth Stadium.  “Both clubs were satisfied by the decision to take the match to Chatsworth Stadium,” said PSL General Manager for Football, Ace Ncobo. “Support for any of our PSL matches is always great in the KZN area and I’m sure we can expect a capacity crowd for the match.”.Earlier this week, the PSL shortlisted three possible venues for the final and a letter was sent to the clubs for feedback.
