FORMULA 1

Fernando Alonso has said he will do what he can to help Ferrari's Felipe Massa beat Lewis Hamilton to the Formula One title after winning the last two grands prix for Renault. Alonso fell out with championship leader Hamilton during the 2007 season.

RUGBY

Luke Watson is not interested in defending himself because he feels he has said nothing destructive towards anyone. This was the way the Springbok loose forward reacted, through his father Cheeky, on Monday to the storm that had erupted around him. If it is found that Watson contravened Saru’s code of conduct, he will have to appear before a disciplinary committee.

CRICKET

The Proteas will find out later this week whether the umpire decision review system, which was put on trial during the recent Sri Lanka-India test series, will be used for their test series against Australia as well. The ICC Board will hold their quarterly meeting in Dubai on Tuesday and Wednesday and this is one of several important items on the agenda.

SOCCER

Bafana Bafana will be lining up in a friendly international against a Ghana "B-Team" at the Free State Rugby Stadium in Bloemfontein on Wednesday night. Safa released the names of the Black Stars players, consisting almost entirely of players based in Ghana.

GOLF

Double-major winner Padraig Harrington will face Masters winner Trevor Immelman and previous major winners Retief Goosen and Jim Furyk in the 36-hole PGA Grand Slam of Golf. It is an event only open to winners of major championships, beginning on Tuesday at the Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda.
