The future of the Springbok emblem is expected to come up for discussion during the national sports indaba to be held in Durban on Thursday and Friday. Some say there should be one emblem for all South African sports teams. SA Rugby Union chief executive, Johan Prinsloo said he was not aware that the Springbok emblem would be discussed. Rugby will naturally resist all efforts to scrap the Springbok emblem.

Zunaed Siddique and Mashrafe Mortaza scripted Bangladesh's first-ever victory over New Zealand in one-day cricket with a comfortable seven-wicket win in the opening match on Thursday. Left-hander Siddique scored a brilliant 85 for his maiden half-century to anchor his team's successful chase of a 202-run target in 45.3 overs after paceman Mortaza took 4-44 off the Kiwi's.

Veteran Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Brian Baloyi at 34-year-old was recalled to the Bafana Bafana squad this week for the final 2010 African Nations Cup Group Four qualifier against Equatorial Guinea in Malabo on Saturday. Baloyi, who played 23 times for Bafana, was last in the national frame three years ago, but he is delighted to be back and is determined not to just make up the goalkeeping numbers.

Lewis Hamilton says he is stronger, both physically and mentally, than ever and not about to blow his lead in the Formula One title race for a second year running. The McLaren driver leads the Formula One World Championship with a seven-point advantage over Ferrari's Felipe Massa with three races left going into this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix.

Former US Open champion Angel Cabrera and his teenage offspring Federico provide the European Tour's latest father and son combination when they play in this week's inaugural Madrid Masters. Federico, age 19, in his second year as a professional, has been playing mainly in South America but has also featured in five Challenge Tour events in Europe this year.
